7 weeks old Kate

Kate is growing chubbier - a double chin and rounder body. She smiles at us when we talk to her. She has established a routine and I get a longer rest at night. My masseur passed me a bottle of oil for baby massage and taught me how to give Kate a massage. She slept soundly in the afternoon right after the massage! She enjoys the session when I rubbed her stomach and legs, her eyes wide open!

I take her out in the sling to pick Yu Jie from school. Kate has no problem with it, in fact I can hear her snores. It is funny how passers-by tried to peek at what I have in the sling.

Starting the new year at new school

Wearing the new pinafore marks the start of kindergarten!
System at this new centre is not the same as the previous centre. Everyone wears the pinafore in the morning and changes into the PE attire after shower.

Practice makes Perfect!

I used to be worried when Yu Jie confuses the letters 'b', 'd', 'n' and wondered if she is dyslexic. After talking to some of my friends, it seems to be a common problem among the young learners. Of course, it will be of a concern if she continues as she grows older.

I also notice that she writes as if she is drawing, i.e. she has her own ways of drawing so that the final product looks like the letter. Hmm, I am not sure if it is acceptable but I think it is important how she writes. The principle is the same for the chinese characters, 横, 竖. We will write from the left to right, top to bottom. Yu Jie writes her 'a', 'b', 'd', ...  using 2 strokes. I taught her the cursive way - all in ONE stroke.

This link is useful as it has animation, showing how each letter is written.

During the Christmas week, she stayed home and I spent an hour daily to teach her the 'correct' way of writing the alphabets. Initially, she could not remember and she had to redo a number of times. Nothing beats the drills! She protested initially and I had to make the writing session short followed by play/TV and another hour of writing after her nap.

With the regular practices, she is confident of writing. I can dictate to her and she learns to spell words.
She is proud of her own writing and happily shows Papa. Her hard work has indeed paid off!
Hopefully she keeps up her good work!   (^.^)

Neat work!

She is putting in effort to write well.

Jordan's milestones

Jordan is turning 2 in February next year.

Things that he does now:
Communication
Jordan can tell us his basic needs - milk, eat, poo. He watches the Signing Times and is applying what he learnt to good use. He can be a rather cheeky munchkin. I cannot recall when he started doing it. He started calling us in his special way - it is the intonation. It was so hilarious that Yu Jie starts using the same tone to call us.

Counting
He can count 1- 10, though not all the numbers at one time. He might just start with 4 and continue until he reached 10. He can count along when the sister counts.

ABC
He knows the alphabet song well. Though he is not very clear in his diction, we know what he is singing.

 Milk from a cup
With the influence from Yu Jie, he wants to drink his milk in his cup too!

*This is only in the presence of the big sister. Other than that, he drinks from the bottle.

Milk moustache! :)

Movement
He can run and is learning to jump. He dances to familiar music and he sings along too. He can recognise the TV advertisements. His current favourite is the NIPPON paint with the sumo wrestler swaying his body.

Jordan is greatly influenced by Yu Jie. He cuddles stuff toys and loves the two Dora plush toys which were originally intended for the elder sister. His sleeping den is filled with pillows and bolsters and plush toys!

He watches his favourite cartoon almost everyday. He chants "Mommy...story..", "Mommy... ... times...". That would be the Baby Signing Times. But he does not watch the whole show. He would walk around and fidget with the DVD cover, trying to remove the cover. If I happen to leave the room for a while, I would have the DVD already kept in the case coz dear little boy has intelligently ejected the disc and placed it safely in the case! You would not believe that just minutes later, he will shove the case to me and ask me to play again.

Falling in love with thee

C.J.K.

Shot #1
Bingo! All looked at the camera and smiled!

Shot #2
Jordan tried to hold Kate's hand. Casey was excited holding Kate in her arms.

Shot #3
Kate: Can you carry me now, mommy?

About Yu Jie

Yu Jie received a party favour and was so thrilled to put the Dora tattoo on her hand. She is choosing the clothes/shoes to wear, the way to tie her hair. She has making decisions everyday.

That day, she told hub that she found ballet too slow and did not want to learn anymore. She even said that the teacher always teaches the same ol' thing. Wow, she can even criticise! Hub observed that she lost her attention during the last 15 minutes of her class and would usually do her own stints.

Since that day, she still faithfully attends her dance class. I will have to search for other kinds of dance - hip hop maybe? Shall have a talk with her soon...

Every night, she arranges her bears, Dora, doggie and what-nots before she sleeps. Such an organised person... haha!

Mommy's boy?

Jordan has always been 'sticky' to me. Now that I am home all the time, he turns to me for all needs.
Instead of the usual afternoon siesta in the Grandma's room, he wants to sleep in my room.
This is still manageable as he dozes off easily in no time. No fuss.

Sometimes, he wakes up crying for my attention. If I am not nursing Kate, I can attend to him promptly.
But at times when I am busy with Kate, I have to just ignore Jordan and let him cry. He can be a stubborn fellow and will just wail until he gets what he wants.

Interestingly, he sometimes just wants to hold my hand. He can be sitting on the couch watching the TV or playing his toys. Suddenly he would reach out to hold my hand and continue his activity at the time. Kinda sweet... Is that mommy's boy or middle child's syndrome?

Recently, I had to ignore him coz it was already past his naptime and he still insisted on playing.
He actually fell asleep while fussing?! How funny is that! It is like America's Funniest Home Video, but Singapore's version!
